A
Conversation with Usamah al Kurdi
|
|
|
"..the
two countries have no alternative but to strengthen their
relations. The importance of the United States is its role
as the superpower of the world. The importance of Saudi
Arabia is its international role, its good standing around
the world, and its important voice among the Muslim
countries as the host of the two holiest cities in all of
Islam -- Mecca and Medina. There is also its importance as a
major source of energy to the rest of the world.."

Gulf States
Want Status Quo In Mideast [Jan 5]
"..Against a background of Western saber-rattling, the GCC
has recently focused its efforts on building a distinctive Gulf
Arab position on Iran's nuclear program.. ..Instead of focusing on
punitive levers on Iran, GCC states remain committed to a largely
nonconfrontational policy of defusing tensions with Iran and
maintaining the status quo of strong U.S. military commitment as
the key deterrent to Iranian influence. Recent GCC statements on
Iraq and Iran have been shaped by Saudi Arabia's attempts to
demonstrate leadership, while simultaneously avoiding any
significant commitment, to prevent deviation from the status
quo.." [more]
