We are extremely pleased
to launch a newly redesigned and updated Saudi-US Relations
Information Service (SUSRIS) web site and
e-newsletter/article list. Or, for those among us who spend too much
time in front of computers, "SUSRIS 2.0"!
The SUSRIS project
-- an independent, private sector information resource - was a
by-product of the Saudi-American Forum (SAF), created in
November 2003. Both were launched to provide timely, objective and
informed material on the historical and contemporary relationship
between the United States and Saudi Arabia.
The SUSRIS and SAF
web sites and e-newsletters provide information from a variety of
sources that would otherwise be difficult for most readers to
uncover. In addition, SUSRIS provides original materials,
including interviews, essays and more. The response to this resource
has been tremendous. List membership is measured in the tens of
thousands and monthly web site hits are measured in the millions.
Moreover, SUSRIS is routinely cited by major international
media as a news source.
"SUSRIS
2.0" introduces a new web site navigation system, updated
features and, of course, a new look. However, we will continue to
combine the features available from an extensive on-line information
resource with the timeliness and accessibility of email delivered to
your desktop. Among the new features are:
-
A homepage that offers
a one-screen view of current, high-interest developments by
incorporating a scrolling news box.
-
A pull-down menu
system that enhances your ability to 'drill down' into SUSRIS
resources.
-
A remodeled
discussion
section allowing visitors to post their comments and exchange
experiences and views.
-
A press-room to allow
easier access for members of the media to SUSRIS
materials.
-
A list of subject
matter experts to facilitate contact with scholars, diplomats
and others who have detailed insights on US-Saudi relations.
-
A thoughtful
indexing
and archive system to reduce time spent searching.
-
A more detailed
compilation of major media reporting on US and Saudi
developments.
-
A comprehensive
listing of links to connect you to other valuable on-line
resources.
-
A powerful
search
engine to respond to your needs.
These updates, and a few
more, have been made to increase the utility of SUSRIS.
You can use them to keep up with developments and find background
material on the US-Saudi relationship.
What can you do?
-
We welcome your
feedback on the new features as well as ideas on other areas we
can improve.
-
We would also like to
see you participate in the moderated discussion
forum, where all
visitors have the opportunity to share their views and
contribute their insights.
-
Lastly, we would
appreciate you telling your friends and colleagues about SUSRIS.
You can start by forwarding this email to them and suggesting
they visit the site and sign up for a (free) subscription to the
email list. [Just click on the "Forward SUSRIS to a
Friend" link below, and in every e-newsletter and
article.]
-
In coming weeks and
months as you receive new SUSRIS items, or when you learn
of someone looking for information on US-Saudi relations, send
them a SUSRIS newsletter, interview, article or special
report to review, or just tell them to check out SUSRIS.org.
We thank you for your help in getting the word around about SUSRIS.
Finally, we appreciate
your membership on the list, whether you are a newcomer, a
"charter" member or somewhere in between. Please be
confident we are redoubling our efforts to bring you everything you
need to know about US-Saudi
relations or, at least, helping you find
out where to get it.
