Bush to Visit Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia Next Month
By VOA News
29 April 2008

U.S. President George Bush will visit Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia next month.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino says the trip will run May 13 through May 18.

In Israel, Mr. Bush is to meet with President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and address parliament. Perino says Mr. Bush will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of Israel's founding.

Perino says in Saudi Arabia, the president will meet with King Abdullah and commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of U.S.-Saudi relations.

She says Mr. Bush will hold talks in Egypt with President Hosni Mubarak, Jordan's King Abdullah and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Mr. Bush is also to deliver remarks at the World Economic Forum on the Middle East.

Perino says that in his meetings, President Bush will reaffirm U.S. efforts toward peace and prosperity and its work with regional allies to combat terrorism and promote freedom.

The Palestinian president met last week in Washington with Mr. Bush and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Mr. Abbas later said the meetings failed to make progress toward a peace deal with Israel, but stressed he is still determined to negotiate with Israel. Mr. Bush separately hosted Jordan's king at the White House last week.
