Summary
- Four
gunmen attacked compounds housing oil
workers in Khobar, Eastern Province,
Saudi Arabia at about 7:30 a.m. (0430
GMT) Saturday, May 29, 2004.
- Sources
placed the number killed in the
initial gun battle at between 10-16.
- The
gunmen fled to a high-rise building in
the Oasis Residential Resort in Khobar
and held as many as 60 hostages
throughout the day.
- Dozens
of Saudi commandos raided the housing
compound in a bid to free foreign
hostages held by suspected al Qaeda
militants.
- Militant
leader and six suspects captured.
As many as 50 hostages rescued.

troops rescue oil hostages. Most
of the 50 foreign hostages
who were being held by
militants at an oil workers'
compound have now been
freed, Saudi security

claims triple attacks in
Saudi oil centre.. "The
heroic mujahedeen in the
Jerusalem Squad were able,
by the grace of God, to raid
the locations of American
companies ... specializing
in oil and exploration
activities and which are
plundering the Muslims'
resources, on Saturday
morning." The
authenticity of the
statement could not be

Prince Abdullah said
citizens and security forces
must work as one to stamp
out terrorism. "This
corrupt and deviant group
must be eliminated..
"This deviant group
says they want to scare away
foreigners but the
foreigners have come here to
serve the country. In fact
we brought them here and
they are under our

Ambassador to the US
condemned the attack and
said, "The terrorists'
goal is to disrupt the Saudi
economy and destabilize our
country. But they will not
succeed. With every
desperate act of violence,
our effort and resolve to
destroy the terrorists only
