Turki Aims to Bridge Gap With US
The Kingdom’s nominee for ambassador to the United States said he would
try to bridge a “gap” in relations and defend compatriots accused of
complicity in the Sept. 11 attacks.
“Opinion polls... suggest that there is a big gap between the two
peoples resulting from the events of Sept. 11, 2001,” in which 15 of 19
hijackers were Saudi, Prince Turki Al-Faisal said.
“Hence, one of my top priorities there will be to bridge this gap
between the two peoples... building on Crown Prince Abdullah’s (April)
visit to the United States, which was successful by all standards.”

Saudi
speaks on America, surprises - Cookeville, Tenn
"The
Saudi people realize the difference between
American policies and the American people
themselves," Samar Fatany told the Cookeville
Noonday Rotary Club yesterday. "It is wrong
to think Saudis hate Americans. We need American
expertise and know-how," she said. Fatany,
radio journalist and senior English Service
Announcer at Radio Jeddah, is on a quick good-will
trip to Tennessee with her daughter Sara.
Sponsored by the Council of Saudi Chambers of
Commerce and Industry in Riyadh, the trip is one
of several that has been planned to help bridge
some of the misunderstandings between the Saudi
people and
Americans and to help re-establish connections
between the business communities of the two
countries.

U.S.,
Saudis should still consider shared values -
Murfreesboro, Tenn
Much
like her American teenage counterparts, Sara
Almaeena, a native of Saudi Arabia, likes to go to
Starbucks. She also enjoys shopping at the mall
and watching American TV shows. She speaks English
and is planning to attend an American University
in Spain. Almaeena has been to the United States
before and has siblings who have gone to school
here. "I really enjoy coming here,"
Almaeena said. "I've gotten to visit a lot of
places." Almaeena, a recent high school
graduate, is spending a few days traveling around
the Middle Tennessee area with her mother, Saudi
Arabian radio journalist and talk show personality
Samar Fatany, who will be talking to area Rotary
Clubs — including the Noon Rotary Club in
Murfreesboro — about the relationship between
the United States and Saudi Arabia.

State Dept to Launch ‘Charm
Offensive’ in Mideast
Middle Easterners prepare yourselves to be
wooed, because the US State Department is about to
launch a genuine charm offensive in your
direction.
The Bush Administration wants to improve its
image abroad, especially among Arabs and Muslims,
as they realize their status has gone south since
the US invasion in Iraq.
