In years past Yahoo was distinguished by its excellent subject directory of hand selected resources. The directory remains, but now Yahoo is a primary contender among search engines with its own crawled database. Offers many helpful search shortcuts.  [Click Here]
 
Teoma
A medium-sized search engine that produces excellent retrieval. Teoma uses "subject-specific popularity" to rank a site based on the number of same-subject pages that reference it, not just general popularity. MSN Search
Microsoft launched its new search engine late in 2004. This is one to watch. Be sure to check out the "search builder" feature which offers an interesting approach to search refinement options.  [Click Here]
 
Gigablast
Small but interesting database. Offers "Gigabits" which are related keywords and phrases suggested as ways to refine a search. Every result has a direct link into the Way Back Machine�labeled as "older copies."  [Click Here]

Librarians' Index to the Internet

Metacrawlers: Search multiple search engines from the same web site

Vivisimo
Performs document clustering (based on titles, URLs, and short descriptions) so that users may browse the results by hierarchical categories. Very useful and effective approach.  [Click Here]
 
Clusty
A more consumer oriented version of Vivisimo. Offers Vivisimo's document clustering feature which groups related items into separate folders for browsing. In addition to general web meta searches, Clusty facilitates "shopping, blogs, gossip, images, Wikipedia and people searches."  [Click Here]
