Developments

  • ABB Lummus, the employer of five expats killed on May 1, said all 90 of its expatriate staff and around 30 dependents were being evacuated from Yanbu.  Source: Reuters
  • The US Embassy urged Americans to leave Saudi Arabia.  Source: Reuters
  • Security sources said the attackers were two sets of brothers from the same family; three were employees of the office they attacked.  Source: Reuters, Courier Mail News
  • Among those killed in the attack were "the top three officials at an upgrade project being carried out by Swiss-based firm ABB Lummus at the Saudi petrochemical firm YANPET, jointly owned by U.S. Exxon Mobil and Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC)."  Source: Reuters
  • Saudi Arabia has denied that any of the victims of a shooting spree in the Red Sea port of Yanbu on Saturday were mutilated or dragged through the streets.  Source: AFP 
  • A Saudi National Guard soldier was killed in the incidents and 19 other security officers were wounded. Source: NY Times
  • About 25-50 people wounded in the attack are recovering at the Royal Commission Hospital in Yanbu.  Some are in critical condition.  Source: AP
