From The History of the Saudi-US Relationship

During his February 1962 visit to the White House, King Saud of Saudi Arabia brought with him silk and silver brocade fabric for Jacqueline Kennedy. Mrs. Kennedy later commissioned the design firm of A La Carte to create an evening gown using the material. She first wore it to a September 1962 Washington performance of Irving Berlin's musical Mr. President, which was followed by a dinner at the British Embassy.

The dress was displayed at the Kennedy Library from October 9, 1999 through May 1, 2000.
